You Moron! Even *I* Would Marry Betty!
I read Archie Comics from -- oh, geez -- like age 3 until I was in my early 30s. I was still subscribing at 27, but to be honest, the size of the thicker books got thinner and thinner until they were little more than standard comics. I love(d) Riverdale and its inhabitants. And even still the box where I tossed the books after first reading gets hauled out from time to time for another look.

But this shocking bit of news has me absolutely floored.

ARCHIE IS GETTING MARRIED!!!!

I still collect and read a bunch of the older ones, here and there, but haven't felt much of an affinity for the new issues since Dan DeCarlo passed away.

The media coverage so far hasn't translated into any people asking for the issue in my shop.

Was your LJ account turned off for a bit there? You had the strike going through your name on my profile page for maybe a few days.

What what what?? Dan DeCarlo died? Drat! Besides Samm Schwartz, Dan was my favorite Archie artist!

And yes, I deleted my LJ page in a fit of pique. Exactly why is the subject for a forthcoming post, but in a nutshell I was having a hard time caring about anything enough to write about it. :)

I go through that most of the time. I look at what I post now, and the types of things that I used to post when I had more time, and I get angry at myself. But, there's nothing I can do about it at the moment, so I do what I can do, and hope that people like it. I still do it for ME, of course, but I do wish there was more 'there' there.

Dan passed away in 2001. I hadn't known until I checked Wikipedia for the date that he had twin sons who predeceased him, both of whom had also worked as Archie artists.
